GCBT Finger Lakes Cycling Tour

Friday July 31st to Monday August 3, 2015

Spend the Canadian Civic Holiday long weekend exploring the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York by bicycle. This is an annual, signature GCBT event with three days of incredibly scenic cycling.

Expect to be dazzled by the beauty of the Finger Lakes with breath-taking vistas of hills, lakes, valleys, wineries, and quaint villages. You will experience rolling countryside on quiet paved roads, with some challenging climbs.

Keuka College

Keuka College boasts its own beach on Keuka Lake, just minutes walk from our accommodations - perfect for a refreshing swim after a day's ride. Keuka Lake is a beautiful glacial lake, in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. The college is about a 3-hour drive from Hamilton, Ontario.

Registration includes three nights of accommodations at the college dorms.  Dorm rooms are very basic with 2 single beds, pillow and bed linens provided.  For those not staying in air conditioned rooms, we suggest bringing a fan.

This year we have a choice of two great accommodation options. Option 1 is Davis Hall, where we have been for the last 2 years.  It is a traditional residence dorm with rooms with 2 single beds and shared washrooms down the hall.  These rooms are not air-conditioned so if you choose this option we recommend that you bring a small fan.  Private rooms are available for an additional fee.

For those of you who want to arrive early or stay later, Davis Hall is available for extra nights on Thurs. July 30 and  Mon. Aug. 3.   Cost per room per night is $50.00

Option 2 is the Strong Apartments which are located on the west edge of the campus, on the water front.  These apartments are air conditioned  and accommodate up to 4 people.  Each apartment has a small kitchen and living room and 2 bedrooms with 2 beds. There are 20 apartments available, accommodating a maximum of  10 people in private rooms and 60 people in shared.  If you choose a private room in Strong, please be aware that your bedroom will be private, but that you will be sharing an apartment with up to 2 other people. Extra nights are only available in Davis Hall.

If you want to get a group of 4 people together to share an apartment, email Cheri at after you have registered for the weekend.

Also included in the cost of registration are three breakfasts, and two dinners.

The Rides

Three full days of riding are planned with a short warm up ride on Friday evening.  Route maps and cue sheets will be provided upon arrival and offer both a short and long route option each day, with short distances typically 60 -70 km and the long  90 – 110 km.  Saturday and Sunday we will start the rides together departing from the College, while Monday has a remote start option at Letchworth State Park (known as Grand Canyon of the East), or a start at the college.

You will be responsible for bringing or buying your own snacks and lunch during the ride, however, options for snacks and stops will be identified with the route description.

Philosophy of the Tour

These rides are not supported and each rider is expected to take responsibility for their safety and be prepared. This entails that every rider must be capable of map reading and minor bike repairs on the road (i.e. fixing a flat tire, adjusting the seat).  A trip meter is recommended to mark distance along the route.

You should always ride with someone and have a partner that is aware of your plans and expected travel times as there is no formal check-in at the end of the day. Any youths on the tour must be accompanied by their responsible adult during the rides. It is your responsibility to ride safely and return to the College before dark.  A waiver must be signed before participating on the rides.

Registration is now closed for Finger Lakes 2015.
